Finding the best Isle of Palms vacation property experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal SC. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitor guides have offers and deals for local tours and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Select a designated group leader, choose your dates, and select a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Wild Dunes home with lagoon\/golf view, and screened porch! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible online. If they are not listed, email the property manager before booking the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is right for your vacation family.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Additional considerations:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Note any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to compel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
