Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Charleston area vacation rental experience:
Sticking to a rental budget:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. To get the largest rental within your budget, we recommend booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at Charleston area restaurants, beaches, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Booking websites typically offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Often, management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines that include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Selecting the best vacation home:
- Choose your dates and budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Ocean Club, Gated Community, Oceanfront Pool and Hot Tub access has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property management company before you reserve your home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out which bed configuration is right for your family.
- If there's a particular Charleston area attraction you crave, keep an eye out for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Tips for a smooth stay:
- Get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- During check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peace. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a excellent time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
