Tips to get the very best vacation property experience:
Money saving strategies:
- To find the best value, shift your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites usually offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guides contain deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.

- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or charges applied to your agreement.
Have a great stay:
- Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Upon arrival, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to drive future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review.
