Tricks and tips to get the very best rental experience:
Finding your perfect rental home:
- Summertime is high season in the Charleston area area. To get the best value, try shifting your trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, , and reduced traffic.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Many property management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guides that include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to choose and book the perfectrental home:
- Start by choosing your vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Lagoon view, screen porch w\/ swing bed, Pool, near beach - 3 Pelican Bay has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.

- Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about pet restrictions before booking.
Considerations for your stay:

- To ensure that damages are not linked to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas during arrival. Call the property manager right away to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.

- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent resource to find the best local attractions.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- On check-out day, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on good feedback to drive new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
