Strategies for getting the best Isle of Palms vacation rental experience:
Getting the most from your spending budget:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- To get the best value, try changing your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Narrow your rental Search:
- First and foremost, have your group choose the best dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Lagoon view, screen porch w\/ swing bed, Pool, near beach - 3 Pelican Bay has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the host before booking the home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what is suitable for your vacation.
- Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- If there's a certain Charleston area beach you love, look for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Have a great stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your .
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many problems.
- Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
- To make sure that damages are not attributed to your stay, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. Make contact with the rental manager right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a fantastic time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
