Strategies to get the optimal vacation home experience:
Get the most from your budget:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. Reserving a rental home in the Spring or Fall is a great way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Property managers often offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines contain discounts for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
How to select the perfect rental home in the Charleston area area:
- Begin by choosing your a vacation week and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. OCEANFRONT LARGE CONDO W\/BALCONY! WATCH THE DOLPHINS FROM THE DECKS OVERLOOKING THE COMMUNITY POOL!! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before booking the home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or applied to your agreement.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
Advice for a fantastic stay:
- Get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of difficulties.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect your property!
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the rental manager right away to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and look for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a terrific vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
