Strategies to get the optimal Charleston area vacation property experience:
Sticking to a rental home budget:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in the Charleston area area. To find the best value, shift your family's Charleston area vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Many management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to pick the best vacation home in Isle of Palms:
- Choose your vacation dates and budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Cute Family Beach Home in Wild Dunes Resort; Close to the Beach w\/Porch Swing & Community Pool! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available online. Otherwise, email the property manager before booking the vacation home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a rental that allows animals. Request details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a certain Charleston area beach you are crazy about, look for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Advice for a great stay:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your . Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of issues.
- Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
- To make certain damages aren't linked to your visit, make note of any problem areas during check in. E-mail the rental manager immediately to record any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a great stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
