Getting the best rental home experience:
How to get the best value:
- Summer months are high season in Charleston. To get the best value, try changing your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
- Property managers often offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Selecting the perfect rental:
- Choose a group leader, choose your dates, and choose a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. The Ashley Veranda King Suite with Breakfast has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the host before you book the vacation home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what is best for your vacation.
- Are you visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
More considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your smartphone.
- To make certain that damages are not attributed to your visit, make note of any problem areas during check in. Get in touch with the property manager right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a great vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
