Charleston area vacation rental tips and tricks:

Getting the best value:

  • Summer months are high season in the Charleston area area. Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties.
  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property management companies offer special rates for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.

Advice for a terrific stay:

  • Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
  • To ensure that damages are not linked to your stay, inspect the property for any problem areas during check in. E-mail the property manager immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often an excellent resource to find the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on good feedback to compel more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
