Tips and Tricks for getting the best vacation property experience:
Get the most from your budget:
- Summer is high season in the Charleston area area. Booking your Charleston area vacation home in Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies usually offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines have deals for local tours and attractions.
Planning and choosing the best Charleston area vacation home:
- Select a group lead, select your vacation week, and select a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Blue Cottage at Casa Zoë - Fresh & New For You has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking websites. If not, email the host before reserving your home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is best for your vacation.
- Is your group looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Add the host's contact information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To make sure damages are not linked to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas during check in. Speak to the rental manager immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to propel future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
