Rental home tips:
When to book & When to go:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- To find the best value, change your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
- Some owners offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides contain coupons for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Finding the perfect rental home in the Charleston area area:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and select a maximum budget.
- City Oasis in Downtown has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before reserving the rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge additional pet fees.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Add the property manager's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
- Document any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if there is a dispute.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a great resource to find the best local attractions.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on great reviews to drive more bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
