Strategies for getting the best rental home experience:
When to book a Charleston area rental & When to go:
- Summer time is high season in Charleston. Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is a good way to save on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties.
- The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- Some property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Often, property management companies supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines which will include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to choose the best rental home:
- Start by choosing trip dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Vacation Villa 5 mins to King St- ‘The Queen Palm’ has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking websites. If not, contact the property manager before booking the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If there's a certain Charleston area attraction you simply love, browse homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or charges may be applied to your contract.
More tips for your visit:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- During check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would back home.
- At departure, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on good feedback to stimulate new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your review find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
