Finding the best Charleston vacation home experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- June, July, and August are high season in the Charleston area area. To find the best value, consider shifting your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
- Owners sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guides that include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Begin by selecting your a vacation week and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Charleston Charmer! 4BR steps from King Street! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before you book your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish which bed configuration is optimal for your family.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or could be applied to your agreement.
- If there's a certain Charleston area attraction you simply love, look for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Considerations for your stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would at home.
- To make certain that damages aren't linked to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas upon your arrival. Call the host right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a fantastic source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a fantastic time? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
