Charleston vacation rental tips:
When to book a Charleston area rental & When to go:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer time is high season in Charleston. To find the largest rental home within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at Charleston area restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Property management companies sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Booking websites often offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides contain deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Selecting the best rental home:
- First and foremost, have your group choose the best dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Charleston Charmer! 4BR steps from King Street! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before booking the vacation home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
- Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
Tips to have a smooth stay:
- Store the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of difficulties.
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect your property!
- During check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and scan for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on great ratings to drive new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
