Charleston area rental home tips and tricks:
How to get the best value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To get the best value, try changing your vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Booking your rental property six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies usually offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides contain offers and deals for local accommodations and attractions.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Choose a group leader, select your trip dates, and choose a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Charleston Charmer! 4BR steps from King Street! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often accessible online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what is suitable for your group.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
Have a great stay:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your . We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- To make sure damages aren't linked to your stay, note any problem areas upon check in. E-mail the property manager immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible resource to find the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a wonderful stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
