Charleston area rental home tips:
Finding the best rental value:
- Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- The sooner your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked early. Reserving your rental home up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Finding the best vacation rental in the Charleston area area:
- Select your vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Lovely Updated Apartment between Downtown and Beach has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available online. If not, call the host before you book the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
- Does your group require particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or might be applied to your invoice.
More tips for your visit:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Document any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute arises.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a excellent vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
