Tips for getting the best Charleston area vacation rental experience:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- June, July, and August are high season in the Charleston area area. Reserve your Charleston area vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Property management companies often offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Make a plan and choose your prefect Charleston area rental home:
- Select a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Suite Retreat on Coming Street ~ Walk Everywhere! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible online. If they are not listed, contact the host before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Request specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
Have a great stay:
- Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of problems.
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- To make certain that damages are not linked to your visit, note any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the rental manager right away to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an excellent source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a terrific vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
