How to get the best rental home experience:
Finding your best deal:
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Booking your rental property six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- To find the most suitable rental home for your budget, we suggest reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Some property management companies offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Property management companies usually offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Many property management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guides which will include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Choosing the perfect vacation home in the Charleston area area:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Private Balcony, 2 Living Rooms, 2 Blocks to King! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before reserving your home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what configuration is right for your group.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
Considerations for your stay:
- Store the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few problems.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would back home.
- To make certain no damages are attributed to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. E-mail the rental manager right away to document any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
