Charleston area vacation rental tips and tricks:
Cost saving strategies:
- To get the best value, shift your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines which will include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Planning, picking, and booking the bestvacation home:
- First and foremost, have your group agree to a vacation week and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Cozy cottage 10 min Downtown \/ 20 to Folly Beach has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property management company before you book the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
More considerations:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your smartphone.
- To make sure damages are not attributed to your family's stay, make note of any problem areas during arrival. Speak to the host immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be respectful. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on good reviews to inspire more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
