Tips and Tricks to get the best Charleston area rental experience:
When to visit Charleston & When to book:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in Charleston. Book your vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have coupons for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Begin by selecting the best vacation week and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Billfish Bungalow - 4 mi to downtown & 6 mi beach has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available online. If not, contact the property management company before booking your rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is right for your vacation.
- Does your family require specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
More considerations for your visit:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your .
- Make a record of any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if a dispute arises.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Just before checking out, take a walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a terrific vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
