Tips to get the best Charleston area rental experience:
When to book a Charleston area rental & When to go:
- Booking your vacation rental in the Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can book, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Reserving your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
- Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have money saving offers on local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Downtown Charleston Monthly Rental Steps To King has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available online. If they are not listed, email or call the host before reserving your home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what bed configuration is best for your group.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or charges might be applied to your agreement.
Some things to know before you go:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make sure that no damages are linked to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas during arrival. Contact the host immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
- On check-out day, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property a final time and scan for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on great reviews to inspire more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
