Tricks and tips to get the perfect Charleston area vacation home experience:
Sticking to your rental budget:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- To book the best vacation home for your budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Property managers often offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Often, rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines that include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Selecting and booking the perfect Charleston area rental home:
- Start by having your group choose date ranges and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Pavilion a la Plage on Isle of Palms ~ PORCH, GAS GRILL, STEPS FROM THE BEACH! has 7 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
- If your family is bringing pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
During your stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
- To make sure that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon check in. message the host immediately to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic source for finding the best local spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a fantastic time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
