Our top Charleston rental property booking tips and tricks:
How to get the best rental home value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Charleston. To find the best value, consider changing your family's Charleston area vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
- Property managers typically offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides have money saving offers on local tours, shops, and attractions.
Planning and picking the right Charleston area rental:
- First and foremost, have your group decide on dates and a maximum budget.
- North Charleston Gem has 7 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible online. If they are not listed, call the property owner before reserving your rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is right for your vacation family.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or costs may be applied to your agreement.
More tips for your visit:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your . Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Document any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if there is a dispute.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peace. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a excellent stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
