Our top Charleston vacation rental home tips:
How to get the best rental home value:
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of SC. Reserve your vacation in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Some property management companies offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Booking websites typically offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby shops and restaurants.
Filter your search:
- Select a group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Poolside Paradise Group Getaway
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is often accessible online. If they are not listed, call the property manager before reserving your home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or might be applied to your contract.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
Considerations for your stay:
- Get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Store the host's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of difficulties.
- Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect your property!
- Document any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- At departure, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
