Strategies for getting the perfect Charleston area vacation home experience:
Getting the most from your budget:
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- Book your Charleston area vacation home in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Owners sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
How to select the perfect rental home:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your trip dates, and select a budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Island Retreat - Great for Large Groups has 7 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before booking the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If your group is traveling with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge additional pet fees.
- Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
More considerations:
- Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many issues.
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- At Check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- On check-out day, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on good reviews to drive future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
