Our top Rental property booking tips and tricks:
Sticking to a rental home budget:
- Summer months are high season in Charleston. To book the most suitable rental within your budget, we strongly suggest booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities.
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides have offers and deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Make a plan and pick the bestvacation home:
- Select your dates and budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Island Retreat - Great for Large Groups has 7 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before reserving the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or costs may be applied to your agreement.
Know before you go:
- Get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your .
- To ensure that damages are not attributed to your stay, make note of any problem areas during check in. E-mail the rental manager right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
- Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a fantastic stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
