Tips and Tricks for getting the best Charleston area rental experience:
Getting the most from your rental budget:
- The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked early. Reserving your vacation property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Summer is the most expensive season in coastal SC. To find the best value, consider changing your trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property managers frequently offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain money saving offers on local tours, shops, and attractions.
Choosing and booking your prefect Charleston area rental home:
- Start by selecting vacation dates and a budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Blue Magnolia
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property manager before you book your home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If your family is bringing pets, search for a property that allows animals. Request information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Does your group require specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Considerations for your stay:
- We recommend storing the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of concerns.
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Make a record of any damages to the property at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
