How to book the best rental home experience:
Getting the most from your rental home budget:
- To find the most suitable vacation home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Charleston area restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain discounts for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Choosing and booking a perfectrental:
- Select your dates and max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Luxurious Retreat - NEAR King - Amazing Balconies! has 7 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before you book your rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what is best for your trip.
- Visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- If your family is traveling with pets, search for a property that allows animals. Get details on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
Additional considerations:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- Record any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if there is a dispute.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected everything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
