Charleston rental booking tips:
Finding your perfect rental:
- Summer is high season in the Charleston area area. To find the most suitable rental home within budget, we suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities.
- The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Booking your rental property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Some property managers offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides have money saving offers on local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose your vacation dates and spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Downtown's Historic 7-Bedroom Designers Home has 7 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking websites. If not, email the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- If your family is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
Have a fantastic stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
- Make a record of any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
- At departure, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a terrific stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
