Tips to get the perfect Charleston area vacation rental experience:
Sticking to your budget:
- Summer months are high season in the Charleston area area. To get the best value, try changing your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property management companies typically offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Often, rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guides which include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to select the best vacation home in the Charleston area area:
- Begin by selecting your the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Private Pool & Historic Home ‘Summer Haze’ has 7 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before you reserve your rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Is your group looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
- Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about pet restrictions before booking.
More considerations:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
- To make certain no damages are linked to your family's stay, record any problem areas upon your arrival. Contact the property manager right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a terrific vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
