How to get the best rental experience:
How to get the best value:
- Summertime is high season in Charleston. Reserve your Charleston area vacation home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Booking websites typically offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guides which often include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Choosing and booking yourrental home:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your dates, and select a budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration you need. Private Pool & Historic Home ‘Summer Haze’ has 7 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking websites. If not, email the property manager before you reserve your home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
- Looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your group is bringing pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
Tips to have a great stay:
- Add the host's information to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- During check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great resource to find the best local scenic spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a terrific stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
