Strategies for getting the best Charleston rental home experience:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- To get the best value, consider changing your vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain money saving offers on local accommodations and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- First, have your family select trip dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. The Lodge Alley Inn™ - 1 Bedroom has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. If not, email the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what is optimal for your group.
- If your family is traveling with pets, search for a pet-friendly property. Get details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
More tips for your stay:
- Get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of issues.
- Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas during arrival. Get in touch with the property manager right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on good reviews to compel future bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective.
