Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation home experience:
Get the best rental value:
- Booking your Charleston area vacation home in Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have money saving offers on local tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose vacation week and budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. The Pearl Suite At Morrison Manor On First Floor has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property owner before reserving the vacation property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
- If your family is bringing pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Get information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
Tips to have a smooth stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
- To make certain damages are not attributed to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. text the property manager immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of problems.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible resource to find the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected everything. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good reviews to drive future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
