Our top Vacation rental tips and tricks:

How to get the best rental value:

  • Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring months is a good way to save on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Many management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guides that include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Planning, picking, and booking a perfect Charleston area rental home:

  • Select vacation week and maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Vacation Villa 5 mins to King ‘The Royal Palm’ has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property owner before reserving the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Get details on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

Tips for a fantastic stay:

  • We recommend storing the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • During arrival, note any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a terrific stay? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
