Tips and Tricks to get the optimal Charleston area rental home experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. Booking your Charleston area vacation home in Fall or Spring months is a great way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines have deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- To start, have your group commit to dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Historic Downtown Home - Luxury Stay On St Philip has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property owner before you book the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out what configuration is right for your vacation.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.
- If there's an individual Charleston area beach you long to visit, browse homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
Have a fantastic stay:
- Add the property manager's contact information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Document any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if a dispute arises.
- Respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
