Tips and Tricks to get the best rental home experience:
When to visit Charleston & When to book:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Charleston. Booking a rental in Fall or Spring months is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Some owners offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Filter your rental search:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Rooftop Deck with Parking - 3 Blocks to KING! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is regularly available online. Otherwise, call the property management company before booking the property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what is suitable for your family.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's an individual Charleston area destination you simply love, search for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Advice for a smooth stay:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- During arrival, make note of any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a terrific stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
