Strategies to get the very best Charleston area vacation property experience:
Getting the best rental home value:
- To book the most suitable vacation home within your budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at Charleston area restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Often, property management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Start by choosing your the best vacation week and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Private Rooftop plus Parking - 3 Blocks to KING! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property manager before you reserve your rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is right for your vacation group.
- If there's a certain Charleston area beach you simply love, keep an eye out for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
- Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Add the owner's contact info to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- At Check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a terrific vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
