Rental home tips and tricks:

Finding your perfect vacation home:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. Booking a rental in Fall or Spring months is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property management companies often offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Many rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select a designated group leader, select your trip dates, and choose a budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. The Juliette-Entire Luxury Residence has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible online. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before you book the property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If there's a specific Charleston area attraction you crave, search for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or could be applied to your invoice.

More considerations:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Record any issues with the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few issues.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • On check-out day, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a great vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
