How to find the best Charleston area vacation property experience:
When to book a Charleston area rental home & When to go:
- The earlier you can book, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- To find the best value, consider changing your trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Some owners offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Many property management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines that include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning, selecting, and booking the right Charleston area rental:
- Start by having your family agree to trip dates and a budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. The Trio at 493 - 3 Suites - On King! has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available online. If not, call the property owner before you book the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
- If there's a specific Charleston area destination you are crazy about, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
Advice for a wonderful stay:
- We recommend storing the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many difficulties.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Upon check-in, make note of any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a great time? Many rental managers make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
