How to find the best Charleston area vacation property experience:
When to go & When to book:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in the Charleston area area. Booking in Fall or Spring months is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites usually offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have discounts for local accommodations and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Begin by choosing your the best vacation week and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. IDEAL IOP Beach Home, 6 BR, Private Pool, Close to Beach, Spacious! has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before booking the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what is best for your vacation family.
- Some rentals allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- If there's a certain Charleston area beach you love, look for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
More tips for your stay:
- Get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of difficulties.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect your property!
- Upon arrival, make note of any issues with the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- At departure, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on good ratings to drive future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
