Tricks and tips to get the optimal rental home experience:
Finding your best deal:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in Charleston. Reserve your Charleston area rental property in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain coupons for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select your vacation week and maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Carolopolis Award Winning Home!
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking pages. If not, contact the property manager before you book the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish what is optimal for your vacation group.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or might be applied to your contract.
- If there's a particular Charleston area beach you crave, browse homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your phone.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Upon check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Be respectful. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and look for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on great ratings to drive more bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
