Finding the best Charleston area vacation home experience:
How to get the best value:
- Booking in Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
How to pick the perfect rental:
- Start by having your group select the best dates and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. The George Street Inn has 8 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before reserving the home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is suitable for your group.
- Visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.
Some things to know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- To make sure damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, make note of any problem areas upon your arrival. message the rental manager immediately to document any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
- At departure, complete a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
