Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:
When to visit Charleston & When to reserve a rental home:
- Summertime is high season in the Charleston area area. To get the best rental home for your budget, we highly recommend reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- The earlier you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property management companies often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Often, management companies supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning, selecting, and booking yourrental:
- Start by having your group choose date ranges and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Little Betty Coastal Retreat~Minutes from Folly! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before booking the property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or may be applied to your agreement.
More considerations for your visit:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- During check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible resource to find the best local attractions.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a fantastic time? Many rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
