Our top Rental property booking tips and tricks:

How to get the best value:

  • The earlier your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • To book the largest rental home within budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at Charleston area restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Many management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Choosing the perfect rental home:

  • Select a designated group leader, select your trip dates, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Quaint 2 Bedroom\/1 Bath Downtown Charleston has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before reserving the vacation home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or charges may be applied to your agreement.
  • Visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your . We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of issues.
  • Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect your property!
  • To make certain that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the host immediately to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peace. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected everything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a terrific time? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
