Tips to get the best Charleston area rental home experience:
Sticking to a spending budget:
- Summertime is high season in the Charleston area area. Booking your vacation home in Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides contain discounts for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Start by selecting potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Bright Historic Charleston Luxury Condo has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before booking the property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.
During your stay:
- Add the property manager's information to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Record any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if there is a dispute.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many difficulties.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- On check-out day, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on great reviews to compel more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
