Tips to get the best Charleston area vacation home experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. To find the best value, try changing your family's Charleston area vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Booking websites often offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides contain discounts for nearby accommodations and attractions.
Planning and choosing the best Charleston area rental:
- First and foremost, have your family agree to dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Luxury Beach Rental! Private Pool & Hot Tub, Elevator & outdoor fireplace! has 7 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before you book the home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.
- Are you looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
More tips for your visit:
- We recommend storing the owner's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many issues.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
- To make certain that damages are not linked to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas upon your arrival. Speak to the rental manager right away to document any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a great vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
