Getting the best Charleston vacation rental experience:
Finding your best deal:
- Summer months are high season in Charleston. Book your Charleston area vacation in Fall or Spring months to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property managers usually offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Choosing the perfect vacation rental:
- Begin by selecting vacation dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Sea Island Suite at 360 King has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the host before you reserve your home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or could be applied to your contract.
More considerations for your visit:
- Add the owner's phone number to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- During check-in, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would at home.
- When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
