Rental booking tips:
How to get the best value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Charleston area area. Reserve your rental property in Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have deals for nearby tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Start by having your family agree to date ranges and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Casa Vieja-B: Sunny and Sleek 1BR has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is usually available online. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before you book your home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is right for your vacation.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- Some rentals allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
More considerations:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- Document any issues with the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect your property!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental one final time and scan for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a great vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
