Strategies for getting the best Charleston area vacation rental experience:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Some hosts offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides have deals for nearby shops and restaurants.
How to select the best rental home:
- Select your vacation week and budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Charming & Central Apartment Downtown has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available online. Otherwise, call the host before reserving the property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
- If your family is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
More tips for your visit:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few concerns.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would back home.
- To make certain no damages are linked to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas during check in. message the property manager immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a excellent stay? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
