Our top Rental property booking tips:

When to reserve a Charleston area rental home & When to go:

  • In the Charleston area area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Booking your vacation rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Reserve your vacation home in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group.
  • Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Begin by selecting your vacation dates and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Charming & Central Apartment Downtown has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before reserving the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's an individual Charleston area attraction you simply love, browse homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

During your stay:

  • Get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Note any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to drive more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your review find their best rental home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
