Tricks and tips for getting the perfect Charleston area rental experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Reserve your Charleston area rental in the Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Booking websites usually offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Many rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which often include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Filter your search:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Charming & Central Apartment Downtown has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the host before you book the rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
- Visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Request details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
Advice for your stay:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Upon check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of issues.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great source for finding the best local spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and scan for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a great vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
