Rental booking tips:
Getting the most from your spending budget:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season in Charleston. To find the largest vacation home within your budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Some owners offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides contain coupons for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Filter your search:
- Choose your vacation dates and spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Calm & Bright Apartment Downtown has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before you reserve the property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what bed configuration is best for your vacation group.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Visiting for a single event? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
Advice for a wonderful stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of concerns.
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Document any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a great stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
