Getting the best Charleston area rental home experience:
Finding your perfect rental:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Booking your Charleston area vacation rental in Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Owners sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
- Property managers typically offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guides that include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to choose and book yourrental home:
- Start by having your family commit to vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Calm & Bright Apartment Downtown has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the host before you reserve the property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what configuration is best for your trip.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
- If there's a certain Charleston area attraction you simply love, keep an eye out for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
Advice for a fantastic stay:
- Put the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- During check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on good reviews to inspire future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
