Strategies for getting the perfect Charleston area vacation property experience:
Sticking to your spending budget:
- The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Booking your vacation home in Spring or Fall is a good way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select your dates and max budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Charming Getaway! 1 BR Sleeps up to 4 has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before booking the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
More considerations for your visit:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on great ratings to compel future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
