Tips to get the optimal rental home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- To get the most suitable rental home within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular Charleston area attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Some hosts offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guides which often include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Selecting the perfect vacation home in the Charleston area area:
- First and foremost, have your family commit to date ranges and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Downtown Family-Friendly Home By Shops has 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available online. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before you book the rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what is optimal for your vacation group.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or charges applied to your contract.
- If there's an individual Charleston area beach you simply love, keep an eye out for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Have a fantastic stay:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Upon arrival, note any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a terrific vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
