Strategies for getting the best Charleston area vacation property experience:

Find your best deal:

  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is high season in Isle of Palms. To find the best value, shift your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Property management companies often offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Narrow your Search:

  • Select a group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Stunning Beach House, Fully Renovated, Pool, Theater Room, Steps to Beach -3 46th Avenue has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available online. If not, email the property management company before you reserve your rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out what configuration is suitable for your group.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.
  • If there's a certain Charleston area attraction you are enamored with, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental

More tips for your stay:

  • Add the host's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of problems.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Document any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a excellent vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
