How to find the best vacation home experience:
Finding the best rental home value:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer time is high season in the Charleston area area. To get the best value, try shifting your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warm weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Some property management companies offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides contain money saving offers on nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Make a plan and choose a perfect Charleston area rental home:
- Choose vacation week and max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Spacious, Family Beach Home! Ping Pong, Pet Friendly, Close to Beach & Marina! has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before you book your rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what is suitable for your vacation family.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Is your group looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
Some things to know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let crooks spoil your holiday.
- Note any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a great resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected everything. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to compel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
