Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Charleston area vacation rental experience:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Reserve your rental home in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitors guides have discounts for nearby tours and attractions.
Choosing the best rental home:
- Begin by selecting your vacation dates and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Harleston House
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually available online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before you reserve the property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is optimal for your trip.
- Looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly rental. Get specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
More considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Upon arrival, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect your property!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on good feedback to drive future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
