Getting the best Charleston area vacation property experience:
Getting the most from your budget:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Charleston area area. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a great way to save on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Often, management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guides which often include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to pick the perfect rental in the Charleston area area:
- Select vacation week and budget.
- Central Location
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking websites. If not, email or call the property manager before you reserve the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your vacation.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or charges may be applied to your contract.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
Considerations for your stay:
- Get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few problems.
- Lock your vacation home while you're out. Keep your property safe!
- At Check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your life at home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a great stay? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
