Booking the best vacation property experience:

Sticking to your rental home budget:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in Charleston. To get the best value, consider shifting your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property management companies usually offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have discounts for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Selecting and booking a perfectvacation home:

  • Select a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. The Tropic - Large Jungly Oasis, Great for Groups has 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
  • If there's a specific Charleston area beach you crave, keep an eye out for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
  • If your group is bringing pets, you will need a pet-friendly rental. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
  • Upon arrival, document any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
  • Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a wonderful stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
